Veterans Day originated as ”Armistice Day”

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on November 11th, 1918. It originally commemorated the armistice between the Allied forces and Germany that took place on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month." On June 28th, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed, officially ending World War I. However, the day of the ceasefire, Armistice Day, marked the end of hostilities with Germany and the "war to end all wars."

10 November 1775, We are ”The Marines”

On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a resolution stating that "two Battalions of Marines be raised" for service as landing forces with the fleet. This resolution established the Continental Marines and marked the birth date of the United States Marine Corps.

Luther, an Augustinian monk, the rector or President of Wittenberg University, challenged the intellectual community to a debate concerning one of the most grievous abuses of the Church—the sale of indulgences. His now famous “95 Theses” were 95 statements of opposition to the abuse of the sale of indulgences, “pardons from sin”. At that time, the sale of indulgences was a clever scheme to finance the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
